Juan MATA in pastels 01

Drawing made with Derwent pastel pencils + Derwent pastel blocks + Derwent colour charcoal pencils on a yellow pastel paper, A4 (21 x 30 cm).

So, this is the drawing I made of Juan Mata without printing the picture (which was so tiny) but by watching the picture on my computer screen.

The sketching was not so hard to do but I struggled a lot when colouring because of the paper, which is much too yellow, & the pastel pencils that I used to sketch & to put in the colours. Well, they are not good on this pastel paper, it was a whole yellowish mess & I nearly gave up this drawing.

I decided to give it a last try with my pastel blocks & charcoal colour pencils today to save it & this is the result : it does not look at all like the picture but I think it does look a little like Juan, though he looks older. The scanner does add too much contrast, which makes the features look stronger. Well, I hope you like it anayway.

And I mostly hope Juan will play tomorrow in the Community shield game. Chelsea badly needs him in midfield, from the latest pre-season games ! And I will finish a drawing of Nando tomorrow, hoping it will bring him luck & that he scores.
